I got Bayonetta for the 360 in the mail yesterday and ended up playing it for about an hour last night.
Normally, I’m not a fan of games that rely heavily on Japanese-style storytelling for the simple fact that they’re almost always incomprehensible and are told with a sense of gravitas normally reserved for things like the Holocaust. Bayonetta, on the other hand, is joyously nonsensical and doesn’t for one moment take itself seriously.
At an hour in there are only two things I can say about it:
- Bayonetta is seriously bangable, and;
- There is zero point to trying to make sense of the story as it’s essentially like a bad acid trip in its narrative structure.
The Mrs. watched me play for about a half hour and I have to admit some of the more blatant titilation scenes were a bit squirm-worthy knowing she was watching me enjoy them. The game is gorgeous, however, and I’ve greatly enjoyed it once I realized I wasn’t supposed to be able to understand what’s going on.
