This past Christmas I bought us a Tivo HD XL as a gift.
It’s the top of the line model and comes with 1TB of storage, but when my wife found out about the price and what the lifetime subscription costs she was disappointed it me.
To Tivo’s credit, it took about one night for its usefulness to take the sting out of the cost and by this point I can say without doubt that it’s the best Christmas present I’ve received since I got the original Green Machine as a kid.
As of now, I think we’ve watched maybe one hour of live TV with commercials since December. In fact I don’t think I can imagine going back to watch TV normally now that Tivo ADHD has set in.
Besides the convenience that it provides, one of the best things about the Tivo is that it just works. It took my wife about an hour flat to figure all of it out and she hasn’t asked me for tech support even once in almost two months.
Now that’s a selling point.
