Beer!

Mr. Beer Week 7

by Lawrence on February 22, 2010

I spent some time visiting the Witty Monk sleeping on the shelf in our laundry room this past weekend.

[smartads]

At a distance, the only real change from one week to the next is the amount of dust that’s collected on the outside of the bottles. We’ve been doing a lot of laundry lately, and it was time to give them another dusting.

The one thing I did notice when I picked the bottles up was that the clarity of the beer (as much as it can be gauged through the brown plastic PET bottles) really seems to have increased over the past couple weeks. The yeast and other sediments from the wort have now formed a whiteish layer about a quarter inch thick on the bottom of the bottles.

There appears to be no manner of unusual growth taking place in any of the bottles, so I’m going to take that as a sign that there was no contamination during my sloppy first attempt at pouring the hot wort into the plastic fermenting keg.

I figure that I’ll let the beer age until week ten in the laundry room and then transfer them to the back of the fridge to do some cold conditioning for a month or so.
