This weekend was a big one when it comes to the ongoing Mr. Beer Witty Monk project – the fermenting bottles were moved from their temporary home in the laundry room and into the fridge.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t nearly as easy as I had hoped.
The brown plastic PET bottles that come with the Mr. Beer kit I got for Christmas are actually quite a bit larger than normal beer bottles and are closer to one-liter soda bottles in size. In order to store all eight of them in the fridge took a good chunk of the afternoon cleaning out the fridge just to make shelf space available.
I had initially intended to store the bottles on the shelves on the door, but the odd shape of the bottles made them rock too much whenever he door was opened so I was forced to put them on the top shelf toward the back. The wife’s not too happy with so much space being used by the beer, but it’s temporary – provided the beer is actually drinkable.
I haven’t been able to find very much clear direction on how long I should keep the beer in cold fermentation, but I figured I’ll give it about a month before starting to drink it.
